Solving The Underemployment Problem (Podcast)

In this podcast episode, The Niche Movement founder Kevin O’Connell interviews contributing editor Jessica Lutz. Jessica describes herself as “a directionless soul turned writer and podcaster with a penchant for helping others work through periods of uncertainty and potential change.” She is a writer and podcaster and her content can be found on her website overcomingunderemployment.com.

Kevin and Jessica discuss her past as a first generation college student, the familiar story of realizing you don’t enjoy your major after it’s too late to change, pushing your comfort zone, and taking risks for personal growth. Jessica is also a contributor to Forbes, where she writes about underemployment, a topic she discusses thoroughly with Kevin, and other subjects revolving around millennials and money.

Jessica’s main advice for young people trying to get a job is to keep at it. It can take a long time, but if you keep pursuing your goals, a door will be opened for you. She recommends reading Rejection Proof by Jia Jiang. Building a tolerance to rejection is especially important for young people in the job market, but an ability to handle rejection will keep you from giving up entirely.
